Greg
Hudson will unveil ten new glass works in the
gallery on August 2. Among his new works is a straight-ribbed stripe bowl,
done in black and clear glass, marking a first for the artist, who
traditionally works in vibrant colors.
Glass is a new medium in the Southwest but it is a beautiful
environment for glass because of all the light in this region.
Hudson
’s work is contemporary, it is heavily influenced by the simplicity and
beauty of the glass medium.
Aspen
, a fusion glass platter is most
representational of his work with inlaid aspen leaves depicted in an array
of warm glass value tones- reds, yellows, and oranges, with a splash of
green.
Hudson
’s kiln fired glass art is functional as well - and are exquisite
serving party pieces when entertaining or as a stand alone art piece. Additional
kiln fired pieces for the show, include an array of candle glass holders
melted in the kiln firing process into beautiful abstract shapes.
A
few years ago, Hudson
lost a good portion of his
vision from a medical condition. “When
I lost vision, my depth
perception completely left. But,
I’ve discovered the brain is amazing ands adapts pretty well,” says
Hudson.
Hudson, refuses to let the perceived
disability affect his work and actually has made the best
of it, as that was when he discovered his art
ability. Hudson
spends summers in Pagosa Springs,
Colorado
and winters in Phoenix,
Arizona
